One of the most important lessons I've learned as an actor is that each character is the way they are for millions of different reasons. I, like all actors, have my own personal belief system and morals that govern my life. These aspects of myself are in no way allowed to seep into my character. The cliché "you are, but only a protagonist to your own story" rings true.
I once had a conversation with my grandfather in which he described people as fractals - wholes made up of innumerable intricate parts, big and small, and the closer you look, the more complex it becomes. My love for acting comes from "borrowing" the fractal souls of those outside myself.... and how beautiful is that? |
